Defense Credit Union Advocacy Efforts

DCUC is the nation’s leading expert for defense credit unions, and through our Military Advocacy Committee, DCUC shapes and guides the conversations on hot button issues that largely affect defense credit unions and their military membership.

Defense credit unions have an important voice and perspective on the issues affecting military families and the defense credit union industry. This experience has been forged by their long history of serving their military memberships and needs to be heard by legislative and regulatory decision makers.

Top Initiatives for 2020

National Defense Authorization Act FY2021

DCUC opposes bank industry efforts to take away defense credit unions access to no-cost land leases.

Veteran Business Lending Exemption (H.R. 2305)

DCUC supports legislation to amend the Federal Credit Union Act to exclude extensions of credit made to veterans and military members from the definition of a member business loan.

Veterans and Consumers Fair Credit Act (H.R. 5050)

DCUC supports legislation that seeks to protect consumers from predatory products and services.

Fair Debt Collection Practices for Servicemembers Act (H.R. 5003)

Designation of Low-Income Status (APO/FPO Addresses)

DCUC will continue to offer strong support for changes in NCUA regulations that allow APO/FPO address to be included in Low Income Credit Union designations.
