DCUC Reaffirms Support of John Crews Nomination to NCUA Board

7/23/2026

Highlights Experience to Guide Credit Union System Forward
WASHINGTON, DC – The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) reaffirmed its support for the nomination of John Crews to serve on the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board, encouraging the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee to advance his nomination following its July 23 executive session.
“Strong NCUA leadership impacts more than credit unions; it impacts the millions of Americans who rely on these institutions for affordable financial services, trusted guidance, and economic opportunity,” reminds Anthony Hernandez, DCUC President/CEO, Ret. U.S. Air Force Colonel. “For military families, veterans, and communities across the country, a strong and stable credit union system is essential to financial readiness and resilience. Leaders who understand the cooperative model and the diverse needs of credit unions help ensure these institutions can continue delivering that important mission.”

Crews brings nearly 15 years of financial policy experience, including extensive work with the Senate Banking Committee on major financial services legislation. Following his nomination hearing, DCUC noted his demonstrated understanding of the NCUA’s role in protecting the stability of the credit union system while applying effective, risk-based supervision.

DCUC highlighted several priorities reflected in Crews’ testimony, including:

  • Maintaining the safety and soundness of the credit union system.
  • Supporting efficient, risk-based supervision that recognizes differences among institutions.
  • Preparing for technological innovation while protecting members.
  • Encouraging the growth of new credit unions serving underserved communities.
  • Preserving an accessible and transparent relationship between the NCUA and the credit union industry.

“John Crews brings the policy experience, regulatory understanding, and commitment to public service needed to help guide the NCUA at a critical time for the credit union system,” said Jason Stverak, DCUC Chief Advocacy Officer. “His record reflects a thoughtful approach to supervision, innovation, and ensuring credit unions of all sizes can continue serving their members and communities effectively.”

DCUC encourages the Senate to advance John Crews’ nomination and looks forward to working with the NCUA Board to strengthen the credit union system and expand financial opportunities for the members and communities credit unions serve.
