The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) is saddened to learn of the passing of former President Jimmy Carter today. As a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and a distinguished Navy officer, he embodied the highest ideals of duty and commitment before transitioning to a remarkable career in public service. “During his presidency, President Carter signed into law the Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act of 1980. This landmark legislation empowered credit unions to expand their offerings with checking and savings accounts and strengthened financial security by increasing deposit insurance from $40,000 to $100,000,” said Anthony Hernandez, DCUC President/CEO.
Hernandez added, “We join millions across the nation in expressing our gratitude for his exemplary service and unwavering dedication to the principles of democracy and peace. Godspeed, President Carter.” Comments are closed.
