It’s been a busy month for DCUC, filled with exciting progress and engagement! We just recently concluded our first
successful Texas Sub-Council luncheon with cohost Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU). DCUC formed this new sub-council to offer defense credit unions within the Texas region an additional platform to discuss key issues and priorities while networking with other leaders. The Defense Credit Union Council, (DCUC), sent a letter extending congratulations to Secretary of the Treasury nominee, Scott Bessent, while emphasizing DCUC’s commitment to collaborating on critical financial priorities.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, Defense Credit Union Council, (DCUC), President/CEO Anthony Hernandez briefed the Board of Directors for Defence Bank, one of Australia’s prominent member-owned financial institutions. The meeting comes as Defence Bank explores forming its own association similar to DCUC to support financial institutions serving Australia's military and veteran communities.
The Defense Credit Union Council, (DCUC), gave its first live testimony during the National Credit Union Administration’s, (NCUA), FY 2025 proposed budget public briefing. DCUC expressed its appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to the budget process, emphasizing its commitment to fostering a strong, independent, and efficient regulatory framework that ensures the safety and soundness of credit unions.

The luncheon offered a new opportunity for credit union leaders and executives within the Texas region to gather and discuss issues and priorities that directly impact their success in serving their members’ financial needs, especially military and veteran communities.

DCUC emphasized that while the proposal is well-intentioned, it would likely have unintended consequences, including reduced access to credit for underserved communities, diminished flexibility for credit unions, and a contraction of affordable financial services.
