WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Defense Credit Union Council, DCUC, sent a letter to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), outlining significant concerns regarding the finalized implementation of Section 1033 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. DCUC emphasized that while the intent of the rule is to enhance consumer control over financial data, the implications for credit unions could be detrimental.

In letters addressed to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA 4th District) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY 8th District), and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), DCUC’s Chief Advocacy Officer, Jason Stverak, warned of the severe consequences this bill could have on credit unions serving military members, veterans, and their families. The advertising campaign reaffirms DCUC’s position that any CCCA-like amendments could jeopardize important defense-related legislation while attempting to enrich the largest multinational retailers at the expense of our Nation’s military and veteran consumers.

The “Credit Card Competition Act,” S. 1838, as introduced by Senators Dick Durbin and Roger Marshall, represents another financial hazard masked by seemingly good intentions of the retail lobby. Unfortunately, the proposed legislation does nothing to reduce additional costs for consumers and harms working-class Americans. All it really does is secure another round of windfall profits for big box retailers and e-commerce giants. This is unfair and should alarm everyone reading this article.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a letter sent on Thursday, October 3, 2024, the Defense Credit Union Council, DCUC, urged the National Credit Union Administration, NCUA, to strongly oppose a recently passed Illinois law on interchange fees on taxes and tips.
DCUC expressed concerns that the law, which prohibits credit card companies from charging swipe fees on these transactions, could severely disrupt credit unions’ operations and the financial ecosystem as a whole. |
