DCUC also noted key challenges facing defense credit unions operating on military installations.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) sent a letter to the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees, strongly urging lawmakers to preserve the federal tax exemption for credit unions as tax policy discussions ramp up.
In the letter, DCUC shared how the credit union tax exemption is a vital component of the U.S. financial system. DCUC Chief Advocacy Officer Jason Stverak explained how credit unions’ not-for-profit structure enables them to provide lower fees, better rates, and crucial community services, directly benefitting American consumers and the economy. Representing credit unions serving military members, veterans, and their families, DCUC highlighted the disproportionate burden that one-size-fits-all regulations place on community-based financial institutions.

![]() Papillion, Neb. 4/18/2025-- Cobalt Credit Union and its charitable arm, the SAC Foundation, are proud to stand behind local veteran Ron Hernandez with a $25,000 donation that helped him and his family remain in their longtime home. Hernandez, a U.S. Air Force veteran and founder of the nonprofit Moving Veterans Forward, was recently faced with losing his home while battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Despite having helped more than 3,400 fellow veterans find housing through his organization, Hernandez found himself in urgent need—facing a $47,000 deadline to purchase the house he and his wife have called home for decades. When we heard his story, we knew we had to act. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) is excited to announce that registration is now open for its highly anticipated Annual Conference, taking place July 28 – August 1, 2025, at the beautiful JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, California.
