As 2026 begins, there are several holdover credit union regulatory and judicial issues on the docket from last year that DCUC is working on.

WASHINGTON, DC – This week, the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) submitted four comment letters to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) in response to the agency’s first round of regulatory relief proposals. DCUC’s letters collectively express strong support for the NCUA’s efforts to modernize regulations, reduce unnecessary compliance burdens, and provide credit unions with greater flexibility to better serve their members.
Advocacy in Action: Don’t Cap Our Heroes’ Credit: Why a 10% Rate Cap Hurts Military Families1/27/2026
For anyone struggling with credit card bills, the idea of capping interest rates at 10% might sound like a welcome relief, but as an advocate for America’s military families and the credit unions that serve them, I have to sound the alarm: such a one-size-fits-all cap would likely do far more harm than good. It could unintentionally cut off servicemembers and hardworking consumers from the very lifeline of credit they rely on in emergencies, all while failing to address the root causes of predatory lending.

Calls for Legislation to Protect Pay and Financial Services for Military Communities WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urging Congress to pass legislation funding the federal government by January 30, 2026, and avoid a shutdown that would jeopardize financial access and pay for millions of military members and their families.

WASHINGTON, DC – The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) urging Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman and Ranking Member Amy Klobuchar to reject any effort to include the Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA) in the Committee’s upcoming digital assets market structure markup scheduled for January 27, 2026.
WASHINGTON, DC – The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) has issued a letter to Senator Elizabeth Warren following her January 23 letter regarding proposals to cap credit card interest rates and expand consumer protections.
