In the letter, DCUC Chief Advocacy Officer Jason Stverak shared how credit unions—memberowned, not-for-profit financial cooperatives—continue to provide essential financial services to underserved communities, including military families, at lower costs than for-profit institutions. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) applauds Representative Andy Barr (R-KY) for introducing new legislation (H.R. 654) that would subject the CFPB to the congressional appropriations process.

Your weekly advocacy update: Stay informed, take action, and champion the voice of America’s defense credit unions. An Eventful Week
Our advocacy this week has been firing off on all cylinders. DCUC sent letters to House and Senate committees highlighting our concerns and proposing solutions to improve military banking, veteran financial well-being, and credit union regulations. The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) sent a letter to the House GOP expressing its strong opposition to proposals that would eliminate the federal tax-exempt status of credit unions. DCUC's letter comes in light of the topic reportedly being considered as part of the upcoming budget reconciliation bill.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) participated in key stakeholder meetings alongside America's Credit Unions (ACU) organized by the Electronic Payments Coalition (EPC) to oppose legislative efforts proposing to alter the interchange system in the new Congress. DCUC has actively countered repeated attempts by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Roger Marshall (R-KS) to introduce legislation or studies imposing new credit card routing mandates, which would harm consumers and jeopardize the financial readiness of servicemembers and veterans.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) sent a letter to the Honorable Andy Barr, Chairman of the Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy Subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee, commending his leadership in introducing the de novo bank bill.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) celebrates the U.S. House and Senate’s support of the Veterans Member Business Loan (VMBL) Act, vital legislation empowering veteran entrepreneurs by removing arbitrary lending caps currently hindering credit unions from fully supporting service members and veterans in their business ventures. The current lending caps were first imposed by Congress through the Credit Union Membership Access Act of 1998. See the official congressional announcement here.
