In some low-income neighborhoods, there is just one book for every 300 children. To address this need Cobalt Credit Union partnered with the United Way of the Midlands for a fundraising campaign to benefit the United Way of the Midlands Book Trust, is a program that provides books to students within ten Title 1 schools across the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro. The Book Trust program provides K-3rd grade students with $7.00 once a month to buy books from a Scholastic Reading Club. The #SlamDunkBook Giving Tuesday social campaign resulted in funds being raised to support the Book Trust. As a celebration of the campaign, Creighton University provided 100 FREE tickets so Book Trust students and their families could attend a university basketball game. Ten students had the opportunity to go onto the court and shoot baskets during the half-time promotion, where the Credit Union agreed to donate up to $2,500 in matching dollars for each basket the students made. Cobalt Credit Union and their 260 employees have been a United Way partner throughout 2018.
