KEESLER FEDERAL CONTRIBUTES $15,000 TO HELP VETERANS IN HATTIESURG

Keesler Federal Credit Union has joined forces with Purple Heart Homes with a $15,000 contribution to the organization’s Operation Veteran Home Renovation in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The campaign’s mission is to upgrade and perform essential repairs on homes owned by elderly military veterans and provide them safe and comfortable housing. Purple Heart Homes is a non-profit started by two Iraq combat wounded veterans to ensure better living conditions for veterans of all eras. Hattiesburg is one of seven cities nationally selected to participate in the Purple Heart Homes project, and the only location in Mississippi.

Keesler Federal is partnering with the National League of Cities, The Home Depot Foundation and the city of Hattiesburg on the project. Several homes will be selected for improvements, and the work will be finished by Veteran’s Day, November 11.

Keesler Federal’s financial donation will be used toward the cost of skilled labor needed to make the approved modifications and repairs.

“Our aging veterans have sacrificed selflessly for our nation and deserve our appreciation,” said Andy Swoger, Keesler Federal Credit Union President and CEO. “By teaming up with Purple Heart Homes in a collaborative effort Keesler Federal hopes that we can give back in a way that tangibly improves these veterans’ quality of life.

“One of Keesler’s core values is making a difference in our communities, and our hope is that we can make a difference for those veterans.”

The repairs can range from construction of ramps needed for mobility to electrical repairs. The selected veterans applied for assistance, which was then approved by Operation Veteran Home Renovation.

Biloxi-based Keesler Federal has a branch network of 27 locations, including two in Hattiesburg.
