Border Federal Credit Union Awards $22,000 in Scholarships to local High School and College Students

Del Rio, TX – Border Federal Credit Union continues its commitment to education by awarding over $22,000 in scholarships to 35 high school and college students in BFCU’s field of membership. The scholarships ranged from $250 to $1,000 each.

With the support of our community and staff, BFCU hosts several community events throughout the year to raise funds for the deserving students. The majority of funds were raised at our annual golf tournament that was held in March that includes team play, individual challenges and a ‘Helicopter Ball Drop” in which tickets are sold and a golf ball with the corresponding numbers are dropped over the 18th hole with the winner receiving $1,000. Other events included a 80’s themed bowling tournament and valentine chocolate strawberry sale both hosted by BFCU’s 35 and under young professional group, The PULSE.

The recipients were chosen by a Scholarship Committee which is made up of volunteers that base their selection on the student's academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community involvement. On behalf of The PULSE’s efforts to raise funds, a $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Del Rio High School graduate and future Angelo State University student, Lorenzo Guerra and current Duke University student, Nadia Ford.

Other recipients of the academic scholarships include high school graduates from Del Rio High School, CC Winn High School, Eagle Pass High School and current students from University of Texas, Texas State University, Texas A&M University, Our Lady of Lakes University, and Sul Ross State University.
