Hanscom AFB, MA (May 10, 2017) – Hanscom FCU celebrated its new branch in Billerica Tuesday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event drew dozens to the Treble Cove Plaza, including industry leaders, community representatives, employees, and credit union members.

“It has always been our desire to provide branch service to members living and working in the Route 3 corridor,” said Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta.

The branch is located next to the Market Basket and is open six days a week. Four full-time staff members provide account and loan services as well as financial education and advice. The branch has 24-hour ATM service, and offers free, public seminars on topics such as budget planning, home buying, and car shopping.

Hanscom FCU marked the occasion with a $1,000 donation to the Billerica Food Pantry, a service of the town’s Veterans Services department. “Credit unions live by the principle of People Helping People,” Marotta noted. “We look for opportunities to improve the community we serve.”

Bill Cliff, a volunteer at the food pantry, accepted the donation on behalf of the department. “We serve 120 families in Billerica,” Cliff said. “Everything we have is donated by residents, businesses, and food drives. This will help so many families, from senior citizens to single parents who need help to get by.”

Rob Anderson, Billerica’s community development director, noted the benefits of having a locally owned financial institution in town. “Face to face interaction and civic involvement by the business community is important. We look to provide amenities and services that people need. By coming into the community and getting involved, Hanscom FCU helps us create a community people want to come to and stay in. That improves the quality of life for all of us.”

Hanscom Federal Credit Union, headquartered at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, serves 72,598 members across the country and overseas through 18 branches, over 100,000 service centers and surcharge-free ATMs, 24-hour telephone service and a web-based branch. The credit union holds $1.2 billion in assets.
