Langley FCU Supports CHKD’s Child Abuse Program

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Langley Federal Credit Union donated $5,000 to support the child abuse program at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). The program provides assessment and treatment services for children throughout greater Hampton Roads and outlying areas who are suspected of being abused or neglected.

“The donation from Langley will help the CHKD child abuse program continue to provide services to some of the most fragile and vulnerable children throughout our community – those who are abused and neglected,” says Karen Gershman, executive director of development at CHKD. “Local children made more than 1,200 visits to CHKD’s child abuse program last year.”

CHKD’s child abuse program is nationally respected in the field of child abuse identification and treatment. The program is one of the first in the nation accredited to train pediatricians to specialize in child abuse.

About CHKD

CHKD is Virginia's only freestanding children’s hospital and the heart of a comprehensive pediatric healthcare network that serves the medical and surgical needs of more than 450,000 children throughout greater Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.
