APGFCU Donates 100 Phones to Cell Phones for Soldiers

(ABERDEEN, MD. -- February 16, 2017) — Thanks to the generous donations of its member-owners, APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU) collected over 100 wireless phones, chargers and accessories for Cell Phones for Soldiers in 2016. The donated items will be recycled into prepaid calling cards and distributed to U.S. soldiers overseas, enabling them to call home for free.

Cell Phones for Soldiers sends the donated to an electronic refurbisher or a recycler and the proceeds they receive are used to purchase prepaid international calling cards for the troops and to provide emergency funding to veterans.

Cell Phones for Soldiers is a national, non-profit organization with local collection sites in Harford and Cecil Counties.  Founded in 2004, the program has provided more than 300 million minutes of free talk time by sending more than five million prepaid calling cards to soldiers serving overseas.  For more information, visit CellPhonesForSoldiers.com.

Recycling wireless devices also helps reduce environmental impact and prevent pollution.  Useful materials such as glass, copper, aluminum, plastic and other components can be extracted and reused.

Local residents can continue to support the collection drive by donating wireless phones and accessories at any one of APGFCU’s nine branches in Harford and Cecil Counties.  For more information, call 410-272-4000 and press four.
