Defense Matters
A Forum for Defense Credit Unions

On Sunday, February 25, DCUC hosted it's annual Defense Matters meeting at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Washington, DC. We were fortunate to have presentations from Janice Chance, Chapter President of the Maryland Gold Star Mothers, Mark Grantz, a Secret Service official, discussed cybersecurity threats at the federal level, Tim Ford and Bill Parry, CEO and Board President from the Association of Defense Communities, addressed national trends affecting defense communities and military installations. We were also fortunate to include a break-out session for credit unions with operations overseas where Alvarez & Marsal discussed the implication of the new European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and had some recommendations on compliance. We also addressed emerging issues facing our members (e.g., Termination Clauses in Lease Agreements, AAFES Credit Card Expansions, Delays in the MLA Guidance, and Prohibited Source Concerns), as well as recommended solutions to these issues. Tony Hernandez, DCUC President/CEO along with John McKechnie, Total Spectrum, provided a legislative update and strategy based on DCUC’s recent efforts to increase its advocacy on behalf of all military credit unions. We closed out our Forum with an update on DCUC’s plan for growth over the next five years and discussed the exciting initiatives already in the works.

We thank all our members and speakers for spending an early Sunday morning with us.

A big thank you to all our sponsors: Armed Forces Financial Network (AFFN), IZALE Financial Group, and Crews & Associates. Thank you for your continued support of DCUC and our member credit unions!
